In Chapter 6 a quote that spoke to me the most was, “Empowering students means giving kids the knowledge and skills to pursue their passions, interests, and future.” I empower my students by:
- Innovative Mindset Project: Students have time to choose an interest to research and then create a presentation about it, in order to then share onto our class padlet. This was an inspiration from last weeks reading. I want to empower my students’ curiosity and give them the tools to empower their own learning. Students have the option to create a flipgrid, power point, prezi, active inspire, or explore other presentation platforms. https://padlet.com/heather_jacobs/h1x5slie6ech
- Question look up: I have recently had a change of thinking as a teacher. My students have 1:1 technology in order to empower them to solve problems and be in charge of their learning. When my students have questions during a discussion they are so tempted to open their computers and look up an answer. Just a couple of weeks ago I would have reprimanded them for being “off task” or “using their computer at the wrong time,” but now I LOVE that my students are searching things up in the moment and feeling empowered because they have tools at their fingertips!
